The Pulwama attack on February 14 which led to India losing its 44 CRPF soldiers had left the nation fuming. In the aftermath of the same, the Indian Air Force (IAF) surprised everyone by launching an air-strike on Jaish-e-Mohammed’s terrorist camps and destroyed them. There were claims of close to 250-300 terrorists being killed in the air strike as many lauded this step from the IAF and the Indian Government.

However, with the general elections coming soon, the political parties in India are politicising the matter it seems. The Prime Minister Narendera Modi has stressed that the country is in safe hands. But some of the ministers of the BJP have claimed of winning the number of seats due to the air strikes itself. The former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu who belongs to Congress party has now questioned the authenticity of the air-strikes itself while lashing out at the politicians and termed it as the election gimmick.

He took to Twitter to express his views and urged the BJP leaders to stop politicising the Army. “300 terrorist dead, Yes or No? What was the purpose then? Were you uprooting terrorist or trees? Was it an election gimmick? Deceit possesses our land in guise of fighting a foreign enemy. Stop politicising the army, it is as sacred as the state,” his tweet read.

Sidhu to be in trouble?

Navjot Singh Sidhu, meanwhile, could be once again in trouble for his comments now. In a way, he has questioned the air-strikes conducted by the IAF and it might create another controversy now.

Earlier, soon after the Pulwama attack, Sidhu’s comments in support of Pakistan had left the people of the country in anger and there were calls for him to be removed from the Kapil Sharma Show as well. “For a handful of people, can you blame the entire nation and can you blame an individual?” he had said.
