Australia’s Jess Jonassen plucked out of the air to complete a one-handed phenomenal catch of her bowling in the third game of the Women’s World Cup 2022 that left everyone in awe. The left-arm spinner had to bowl the final over of the game and with 15 to get off 5 balls, Jonassen removed Katherine Brunt from England who was looking like taking the game away from the Australian side with a 21-ball 25.

Earlier in the day, the England side won the toss and opted to bowl at the Seddon Park stadium in Hamilton. Australia got to a massive total of 310 for three in their 50 overs, thanks to Rachael Hayne’s brilliant 130 and she got good support from her skipper Meg Lanning who scored a brilliant 86 as well. Natalie Sciver picked up two wickets for England while the rest of the bowlers did not have much impact on the wickets column.

England meanwhile, had an early dismissal of Lauren Hill for a duck, but the duo of Tammy Beaumont and skipper Heather Knight got the chase going with a partnership of 92 for the second wicket. However, once both the batters were dismissed, the onus was on Natalie Sciver to take the side home and she responded with an excellent unbeaten century in just 85 balls. Despite the efforts of Sophie Dunkley(28) and Brunt(25) towards the end, England fell short by 12 runs in the end.

Here’s the stunning catch from Jess Jonassen:

Jess Jonassen was under serious pressure to defend 16 off the final over and in the second delivery of the over, Brunt hit one straight back at the bowler really hard. Jonassen stuck her left hand out and she alongside the batter was bewildered with the way the ball had been grasped by the former. The 29-year-old covered her face with hands in disbelief after the catch and the skipper was pretty much delighted as well.

Jonassen picked up two wickets and conceded just three runs of the final over to hand Australia a thrilling victory in their first game of the Women’s World Cup 2022.
