'2019 World Cup planning was really poor' - Yuvraj Singh hopeful of India ending their major title drought

Winning a global title is what every elite International team desires to the hilt. This is because winning a world title helps the team cement their legacy as the best in the world. You look at the great Australian teams of the past or even the West Indian sides for that matter, each of them carved out a legacy by winning multiple global titles.

Team India kickstarted the last decade with a bang. Under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India lifted the 50-over World Cup on home soil back in 2011 and followed it by another 50-over heist, two years later in England. Since then, the Men in Blue have breezed past the league-stages of every ICC event before stumbling at the knockout stage.

World Cup-winner Yuvraj Singh feels that India- with the kind of talent they have- should win a major title. “Of course they should (win a major title). With the amount of talent that they have in the form of the players and squad, they really should,” Yuvraj told Sport360 on the sidelines of the Expo 2020 Dubai cricket final.

India was beaten by New Zealand in the semi-final where their poor planning as far as shaping the middle-order is concerned, was exposed to the hilt. And, Yuvraj reckoned the same when he said that the team-management made some really bad calls before and in the World Cup.

“I just felt that the 2019 World Cup planning was really poor. I think that the team management and selectors made some really bad calls – before the World Cup and in the World Cup – and that is what cost them.” Yuvraj added.

Yuvraj Singh confident that Sourav Ganguly will bring a positive change

However, with former captain Sourav Ganguly at the helm of the BCCI, the swashbuckling all-rounder is confident that positive changes will take place behind the scenes.

“I think Sourav Ganguly coming in as BCCI president will give a lot of brain to it in making such things better. We have the talent no doubt, we just need a good think tank, and hopefully, we will be ready for the coming T20I World Cup in Australia,” said Yuvraj.
