It was time for revenge for West Indies as they took on the Afghanistan side for the second one-day international. West Indies faced a humiliating defeat in the opening match of the series. After winning the toss, Stanikzai elected to bat first and would he would have instantly that it was a bad decision.
None of the batsmen apart from Gulbadin Naib were able to resist at the crease. They could only manage a total of 135 before they were bowled out by the opposition. Out of the 135, 51 of them came from Naib. Shai Hope and co. chased the total down with ease.
Shai Hope
The man of the match, Shai Hope wanted to utilise powerplay and keep caution against Rashid Khan. He was elated that his plans came out perfectly.
We had to take everything in account and then I started to capitalize the powerplay. He (Rashid Khan) is a decent bowler and we needed to be careful against him. We have got used to the bowlers but we need to play at the merit of the ball.
Jason Holder
The West Indian skipper was glad about the result of the match and cited out the positives from the match. He was also proud of the fact that they were able to negate the Rashid Khan factor.
Good to get over the line. Still a few areas we can improve on. We need to be selective in our strokeplay. We need to be more aggressive. We were able to get wickets which is always the key in ODIs. We got to find out better ways to play Rashid Khan. We just need to be a little more positive when playing the spinners.
Asghar Stanikzai
The Afghan captain was disappointed to not continue with their winning momentum. He then commended the efforts of the opposition for coming out trumps in the contest.
We were restricted to a low total. Had we got to 200, that would have been difficult to them. Windies bowlers bowled well today. We will try our best next time. The final game is an important one, we are looking forward to play positive cricket.
