One might think that when gifted players from an underprivileged background make it big, they lose their mind. But Peter Roebuck, the former English cricketer, was born to a mathematics teacher and an economics teacher. He studied law at the University of Cambridge, one of the world’s most prestigious universities. He was also a philanthropist.

He started the Learning for a Better World Trust which helped budding cricketers from developing nations complete their education. The Oxford-born cricketer had played over 600 domestic games. His case is a bit strange. He was in South Africa to report on a Test match between the Proteas and the Aussies for ABC and The Sydney Morning Herald.

The South African Police reportedly entered the hotel to speak about the sexual assault of a 26-year-old Zimbabwean man. He asked the police to leave him alone in order to change his clothes. He jumped off from the sixth floor and took his own life. This occurrence surprised many as Roebuck had a good reputation.
