Lots of expectations, a sound technique, but still a rather confusing career; Faiz Fazal’s cricketing journey has witnessed umpteen ups and downs. There was a time when the lad was expected to be the next big thing of Indian cricket and was just one step away from getting into the Indian team. He had even made his international debut for India by playing a game against Zimbabwe.

However, a few years down the lane, his dream to make it to the Indian team again, seems almost shattered. A year ago, Fazal had led Vidarbha to its maiden Ranji Trophy title. The 33-year old was the highest run-scorer for his team and scored 912 runs at an average of 70.15. Nonetheless, despite performing so brilliantly, the lad didn’t get a national call.

Hence, as a result, an agitated Faiz Fazal went on to take a sly dig at the national selectors. After India A team was announced, the Vidarbha cricketer posted a controversial tweet, which read, “Did we win Ranji Trophy and Irani Cup back to back?” The fact that the only Vidarbha player picked was left-arm spinner Aditya Sarwate, annoyed Fazal and it resulted in this. But eventually, this tweet has turned out to be really costly for the star batsman as he has never been able to don the Indian jersey again.
