The Indian cricket team is filled with different characters and each one responds to different situations in contrasting ways. Each one has their own way of dealing with pressure and different circumstances.

You will find someone like Cheteshwar Pujara quietly going about business while Virat Kohli is always pumped up and wants to give everyone a pep talk. The head coach Ravi Shastri is another out-spoken character and loves speaking his mind. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is another quiet and calm character but doesn’t miss out on pointing out things and putting out one-liners.

There are multiple others who’ve passed out one-liners and they’ve become famous. Hence, here are five one-liners in the recent past in Indian cricket that went viral in the recent past.

1. Virat Kohli’s epic one-liner to Murali Vijay

Virat Kohli loves egging his teammates on. He isn’t shy to give a piece of his mind to the opposition as well. In fact, a battle simply drives him and he performs even better when he’s involved in a verbal battle.

During the South African tour in early 2018, he seemed to be batting on a different planet. He was by far India’s best batsman in the Test series. After India’s loss in the first Test, South Africa scored 335 in the first innings of the second Test. India lost a couple of early wickets and Kohli was building a nice little partnership with Murali Vijay.

In the middle of that partnership, Kohli was caught on the stump mic swearing and telling to Vijay if the duo batted till the close of play, South Africa would be under pressure. Kohli’s exact words were, “Shaam tak khelenge, G***d* phat jayegi.” Hence, this was one of the many moments Kohli’s tried to egg his players on but this time it was more on the abusive side.

2. MS Dhoni loses cool on Manish Pandey

MS Dhoni is one of the legends of Indian cricket. In fact, he is arguably the best wicketkeeper-batsman to have played for India. He record as captain and contribution to Indian cricket has been massive. Dhoni is known for his cool, calm and collected head.

However, he also has a cheeky side to him. There are multiple occasions when he has passed cheeky comments on his teammates. However, on one of the rare occasions when he lost his cool in the middle, he lashed out at Manish Pandey. During the second T20I in South Africa in February last year, Dhoni and Pandey stitched a fabulous stand to resurrect India’s innings.

The duo played brilliantly to take India to a good total. However, in the last over of the innings, Pandey took a single and was looking away. At that moment, the former Indian skipper shouted at Pandey and said, “Oyee Bo*****dke idhar dekh lae, udhar kya dekh raha hai.. Main Idhar khada hu na (Look here, why are you looking there. I am standing at batting end)

3. Ravi Shastri’s “goti” comment (2018)

Ravi Shastri has called some of India’s greatest cricketing moments in the 21st century from the commentary box. However, he has had a great impact on Indian cricket in the recent past too. He took over as team director in mid-2014 when the team was undergoing a slump (stayed till March 2016). In 2017, he returned as the head coach and has been at that position since.

Some of his statements from multiple interviews have gone viral and he has been trolled on multiple occasions. The best of the lot was in Australia. In the first Test at Adelaide, India won a close game. They were on top but the Australian lower-order put out a defiant resistance and took the game closer.

However, the Virat Kohli-led side held their nerve and registered a 31-run win over Australia. Eventually, they went on to win the series as well. However, after the win in the first Test, Shastri was interviewed by the host broadcasters. He was asked what was he feeling when the game got tighter. His reply was epic and one for the ages as he said, “Sach bole toh goti muh mein aa gaye tha (To be honest, we almost had our b***s in our mouth).

4. Rohit Sharma abuses Cheteshwar Pujara for not running

Rohit Sharma is the latest to join this list. You generally don’t expect him to abuse or curse a lot on the field. However, he has been in a really good space in this Test match. In his first innings as opener, he blasted 176 against South Africa in the first Test at Vizag.

He has backed up that performance with another good knock in the second innings. He is on course to complete a second ton in the game and start his new role as a Test opener with a bang. In fact, he is one of the reasons for India’s strong position in this Test at the moment.

However, in the second innings, there was one tongue in cheek moment which was caught on the stump mic. Rohit Sharma nudged a ball from Dane Piedt and set off for a single. However, Cheteshwar Pujara denied the single. Hence, while returning back, Rohit was caught saying, “Puji bhaag bh*****d” and it went viral on social media.

5. Ravindra Jadeja’s slip of tongue moment during the press conference (2016)

Ravindra Jadeja was dropped from the side across formats in 2015 after his poor performances. However, he went back to domestic cricket and got back his mojo. He returned to the side and had a wonderful Test series at home against South Africa in 2015. Subsequently, he returned to the side in white-ball cricket as well.

In 2016, when New Zealand came down to India, he was at the forefront again alongside his spin twin Ravichandran Ashwin. Jadeja picked up five wickets while Ashwin picked up four. Jadeja was sent to the press conference at the end of the day.

Commenting about the nature of the pitch and the footmarks, the left-handed all-rounder said that it’s not easy for a new batsman who comes in with all the footmarks around. He said, “Turning track pe jabhi naya batsman ayega toh  uske liye footmarks dekhe uski ……. [Whenever a new batsman walks in on a turning track, looking at the footmarks ….]” and paused a few moments and gave a chuckle. Hence, it was a slip of tongue moment for Jadeja.
