A Twitter user brilliantly explains Virat Kohli's failure in WTC final against New Zealand, video goes viral

Many eyes were on Virat Kohli when India took on New Zealand in the high-voltage ICC World Test Championship final at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. The Indian skipper enjoyed a phenomenal run in his last Test series in England and several backed him to replicate his heroics against the Kiwis. Unfortunately, the talismanic cricketer couldn’t live up to the expectations as India lost the contest by eight wickets and New Zealand walked away with the title.

Kohli got off to a pretty good start in the first innings but he couldn’t convert it into a big knock, getting out on 44. His outing in the second innings was even worse as the Indian skipper went back after scoring just 13 runs. Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammate Kyle Jamieson dismissed him in both innings.

While the pacer rattled Kohli’s defenses with an inswinger in the first innings, he used an out-swinging delivery to end the Indian skipper’s stay in the second innings. Many fans and experts have analysed Kohli’s failure and came up with different conclusions. One such netizen deeply examined the Indian skipper’s dismissal and his points certainly made a lot of sense.

What really went wrong for Virat Kohli?

The Twitter user shared a video, showing what really went wrong with Kohli. The clip featured an old video where the Indian skipper can be seen explaining former England skipper Nasser Hussain what changes he made after his failure in the 2014 Test series in England. For the unversed, Kohli scored mere 134 runs in 10 innings in that series. However, he evolved his game and subsequently, piled up a mountain of runs in the 2018 England series.

Kohli mustered 593 runs across 10 innings in that series. In the clip, Kohli can be seen demonstrating how he bettered his technique to tackle swinging deliveries after the 2014 series. He had explained that his tendency of expecting in-swinging deliveries made him struggle against the outswingers. Nevertheless, he developed his mindset and tasted success in the 2018 series.

The Twitter user then highlighted that Kohli, in the second innings of the WTC final, replicated the mistakes of 2014 which cost him his wicket. Jamieson set the Indian skipper up by bowling regular inswingers. However, he then bowled an out-swinging delivery, taking the Indian skipper by surprise. Kohli edged the ball and the wicketkeeper accepted the easy catch.

This video analysis is getting viral on social media and many netizens are lauding the research work of the Twitter user. However, the biggest question now is how Kohli performs in the upcoming four-match Test series against England, which gets underway on August 4. Will we the Kohli of 2014 or 2018? Only time can tell that.
