Sri Lanka’s thumping win over Australia has brought attention towards one of the tweets made by popular cricket expert Aakash Chopra. On 25th July, a twitter handle by the name of Broken Cricket had tweeted about India’s chances of becoming the world no.1.

The tweet says that India can become No.1 Test side if they beat 4-0 against West Indies. While at the same time, Pakistan needed to level the Test series with England and Sri Lanka needed to beat Australia at home by a margin of 1-0 or more.

Chopra, at that time, opinioned that the first scenario of India beating West Indies by a 4-0 margin seems likely whereas the second case of Pakistan levelling with England was quite improbable. He also felt that Sri Lanka beating Australia by a margin of 1-0 or more was unlikely to happen.

However, two out of the three predictions seems to have gone completely wrong. All three series are currently ongoing. India cannot win the series by a 4-0 margin after the Roston Chase forced drawn game at Kingston.

The England v Pakistan series ending in a draw maybe possible. Both the teams are currently playing the third test at Edgbaston with a 1-1 series score line. The third Test is heading towards a possible draw with England batting solidly in the second innings (Situations may change if Pakistan bowlers crawl back with some inspiring performance on day four).

Openers Alastair Cook and Alex Hales put up a century stand in the 3rd innings to help their team fight back into the game after being pushed on the back foot by the Pakistanis. If the fourth game also pans out in the same way then the series may end in a draw. A scenario which Chopra had felt was improbable.

Also, Sri Lanka steamrolled Australia in the second Test at the Galle international stadium inside 3 days to lift the series which means that the fact which he labeled as ‘impossible’  became a possibility without much fuss.

Here is how Twitter reacted to Aakash Chopra’s prediction:
