South Africa’s master batsman AB de Villiers revealed that his Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli is up for selection against Mumbai Indians. Kohli was sidelined for the first few matches in this edition of the IPL following a shoulder injury he picked up during the Australia Test series.

Virat Kohli’s comeback is much anticipated for the Royal Challengers Bangalore side as well as for the fans. Kohli had taken the 2016 IPL by storm as he racked up as many as 973 runs at a stunning average of 81.08. He struck an unprecedented 4 centuries in a single IPL season last year.

Kohli continued his dream run with the bat in the international arena as well, scoring 4 double hundreds in 4 consecutive Test series. He, however, fell into a minor slump against Australia in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy until he was ruled out due to injury.

Nevertheless, Kohli has been working hard to get back to match fitness and is likely to take the field as RCB face off against the Mumbai Indians. No.3 batsman in the RCB batting line-up AB de Villiers tweeted, “Good to have @imVkohli back to full fitness and up for selection against the @mipaltan. #RCBvMI”

Kohli’s comeback will be a major boost for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, who have had a rare grey start to the tournament. If Virat Kohli is part of RCB’s playing XI, it will relieve Shane Watson from captaincy. The Aussie all-rounder could then focus on his batting, which has been quite poor so far in this edition of the IPL.

In general RCB’s batting has looked unusually weak, save AB de Villiers blistering knock and Kedhar Jadhav’s sparkling innings. Gayle was dropped following a poor string of performances and RCB’s numerous combinations of openers have failed to deliver the big starts.

Virat Kohli’s return to the side will considerably strengthen the Royal Challengers Bangalore, who will look to bag a couple of wins on the trot with their captain back at the helm.
