The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) will begin accepting bids for the franchises for the upcoming edition of the Afghanistan Premier League (APL). While Afghan cricket, in recent times, has been on the ascendancy, it was only a matter of time before which they would have their own domestic T20 franchise league.

An announcement made by the ACB read that the formal bids would be possible by interested franchises on or before the 26th of July. The bidding process will open on the 20th of July. With the way Afghanistan is playing in international cricket, in the limited-overs’ format at least, it is quite clear that they would eventually become a contender for greatness in the cricketing fraternity across the world.

“The tender bid forms will be made available online at www.aplt20.tv from 15 July 2018. The deadline for pre-bid clarification is July 20, 2018, at 4 pm. The last date for submission of the bids is 26 July 2018, at 5 pm,” states the notification inviting bid proposals. “The bids should be submitted… at the office of the APL Sports Tournament Organising Services on the 19th floor, Conrad Dubai, Sheikh Zayed Road, PO Box 5y610, Dubai, UAE.”

Afghan cricket on the rise

Recently, the Afghans ventured into the Test match scenario having made their debut Test against India in Bengaluru. Several legends have made their Test debuts in the M Chinnaswamy Stadium including the likes of Sir Viv Richards as well as Gordon Greenidge. Although they were hammered by the Indians, it was clear that they will only get better from here on out.

With the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) giving them the rights and the access to host the tournament in the UAE, the coast seems rather clear for the hosting of the historic T20 league.
