In their first International game since becoming the full member nations, Afghanistan and Ireland faced in the first game of the 3-match ODI series in which the Afghans showed their authority over the Irish team. Afghans did struggle to post a decent total of 238/8 after losing the toss but never gave a chance to the opposition with the ball. Mujeeb Zadran, a 16-year-old off-spinner, announced his arrival with a 4-wicket haul and set records after his debut itself creating a couple of those.

All the stats and numbers created during the Afghanistan’s biggest victory in ODI cricket:

1 – Mujeeb Zadran became the first male cricketer to born in the 21st century to play International cricket. The off-spinner was born on 28th March 2001 in Khost. Four Women cricketers born in the 21st century have already featured in International cricket.


2 – Mujeeb Zadran became the 2nd player after Shahid Afridi to receive a man of the match award before turning 17 in ODI cricket and the youngest to bag the same on ODI debut. Afridi had two man of the match awards in this format before turning 17. Prior to Mujeeb, Usman Ghani was the only player to receive the man of the match award on ODI debut before turning 18. Ghani received the award at the age of 17 years and 162 days with his 70 and a wicket on debut.


3 – Mujeeb became the 3rd Afghanistan player to bag the man of the match award on ODI debut after Mohammad Nabi and Usman Ghani. Overall, Mujeeb is the 69th player with a man of the match award on ODI debut.


4/24 – Mujeeb’s bowling figures of 4/24 are the joint best by an Afghanistan player on ODI debut. Shapoor Zadran also recorded figures of 4/24 on his debut in 2009 against Scotland. No other player from Afghanistan took a 4-fer on ODI debut.


16y 252dMujeeb Zadran became the youngest player to bag a 4-wicket haul in ODI cricket. The previous youngest was Bangladesh’s Talha Jubair, who took a 4-wicket haul against South Africa in 2002 at the age of 16 years and 297 days. Prior to Mujeeb, no played bagged a 4-wicket haul on ODI debut before turning 19.


16y 252d – Mujeeb is now the youngest player from Afghanistan to feature in International cricket. The previous youngest was Naveen-ul-Haq who made his debut in an ODI at the age of 17 years and 2 days against Bangladesh last year. Mujeeb is also the 9th youngest player to make debut in ODIs.


43 – Afghanistan’s win in this game is their 43rd in ODI cricket out of the 84 matches they played. They went past Kenya’s 42 ODI wins (154 matches) and now stand only behind the remaining 11 Test nations in the list of teams with most ODI victories.


100/10 – Ireland’s total of 100/10 is their 5th lowest in ODI cricket and their lowest outside home since the 2007 World Cup. This is also the lowest total in the Ireland-Afghanistan ODI matches surpassing Afghanistan’s 104/10 in 2012.


138 – Afghanistan’s 138-run win is their biggest in terms of runs in ODI cricket. Their previous biggest win came off 106 runs via DLS against Zimbabwe earlier this year.
