Wayne Parnell, the South African all-round cricketer, is in the middle of a rather indifferent phase of his career, which has been marred by injuries. He made his international debut against Australia way back in 2009, however, has only played 65 ODIs, 40 T20Is and six Tests thus far. Last year, he suffered a groin injury owing to which he was ruled out of the ODI and T20I series at home against Bangladesh.

Recently, he played for Edmonton Royals in the inaugural edition of the Global Canada T20. He didn’t get many opportunities with the but, but finished with six wickets in as many matches at an average of 33.60. The 29-year-old is now all set to play for Worcestershire in the English County Championship and the T20 Blast. His last match in his home country was for the Cape Cobras in the domestic One Day Cup.

I fully believe in my unique skills set

During the event, he played five matches in which he churned out six wickets. His team finished second in the points table but bowed out after their semi-final defeat against the Dolphins in Cape Town. Recently, he put forth his ambitions and goals with the county as well as with the Cobras.

“My goal is to get Worcestershire to the quarterfinal of their T20 league and also to keep them in the first division, as they are currently in last place. I fully believe in my unique skills set and I back my ability with bat and ball to contribute to Worcestershire and the Cape Cobras’cause,” Parnell was quoted as saying in Sport24.

As mentioned by Parnell, Worcestershire haven’t had the best of outings at the first class level this season. They are languishing at the bottom of the table with one win from eight matches. Also, they have only managed to garner 59 points, which is 13 less than Hampshire’s 72. Hence, it’s paramount for the side to pull their socks up in order to climb the ladder in the points table.
