Although an admirer of Kallis, Angelo Mathews will not name his son after him

Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews and his wife are yet to decide on a name for their first son. Mathews’ wife gave birth to a boy about a month ago, but the couple is to finalize a name. An all-rounder himself, Angelo is a huge admirer of former South African cricketer Jacques Kallis. However, upon being asked whether or not he would name his son after the great all-rounder, Mathews replied, ‘No, the name will not be Jacques.’

The couple is considering perhaps giving their child a Sri Lankan name instead. “We are looking at various options and then will decide a name,” the Sri Lankan all-rounder said. They came to the luxurious Taj Samudra hotel in Colombo last week and shared that they are yet to think of a name for their new born son.

Mathews will soon join the Delhi Daredevils squad for the upcoming season of the IPL which is set to begin on April 5th. They will go head to head with Royal Challengers Bangalore in their first game of the tournament. Mathews’ performance will be key to the Daredevils success, and will surely increase their chances of making the playoffs.

He hasn’t quite had a great season thus far struggling with injuries. Mathews also missed out on leading the Sri Lankan ODI and T20I teams in the tour of South Africa, the following T20I series in Australia and very recently wasn’t a part of the two-match Test series at home against the Bangladeshis.

The allrounder will want to get back his rhythm back with the IPL since a much bigger contest awaits his team as the Champions Trophy is just around the corner. With him, at the helm, the young Sri Lankan team will definitely aim to stake a claim on the title. Having done exceptionally well in the shortest format in the last two overseas series’ beating South Africa in South Africa and Australians down under they are certainly high on confidence.
