It seems that the never-ending list of injured players will continue to elongate as Ambati Rayudu of Mumbai Indians became the latest victim of the injury spree in this edition of the IPL. The middle order batsman from Hyderabad injured himself while fielding in during their fixture against Rising Pune Supergiants in Pune.

The home team went on to win the last ball thriller by seven wickets with the help of Smith’s match-winning knock of 84 which included 2 sixes in last two balls of the match. During the course of their chase, Ambati Rayudu injured himself in the 16th over of the match.

There looms a shadow of doubt over the nature of the injury to this quintessential batsman in the Mumbai line-up who has served his franchise since its inception. He has scored 2335 runs in 110 matches at a strike rate of 126.28 which includes 13 half centuries.

But according to Sony broadcaster and commentator, Sanjay Manjrekar, Rayudu seemed to pick up a groin or a hamstring injury.”We reckon it could be groin or hamstring” said the Mumbaikar.

Thereby, it is not certain when the 31-year old will be available to take part in the field for his team.

The list of injured players started off with Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli injuring his shoulder. He is set to miss the first ten days of the tournament. The news of the injury to Kohli was preceded by Mitchell Starc’s who injured his ankle during the Bangalore Test. Fellow colleague of Starc and Kohli, KL Rahul also joined the list due to his shoulder injury. He is undergoing treatment in London along with his opening partner Murali Vijay who is also set to skip this edition of the IPL.

Next to join the list was Ravichandran Ashwin who pulled out of the tournament after being diagnosed with sports Hernia. Mitchell Marsh also joined the list of injuries after recuperating with his surgery on his shoulder. Delhi Daredevils key overseas player De Kock also featured on the list after a tendon damage on his right index finger he picked up during the New Zealand series.
