Arjun Tendulkar to be part of Goa's 2022-23 domestic season

Left-arm fast bowler Arjun Tendulkar will play for Goa in the 2022-23 domestic season, and it was confirmed on August 11, Thursday. He has started training in Goa and is set to sign a professional contract with the Indian state for the upcoming season. He has formerly represented Mumbai in two T20 matches.

President of Goa Cricket Association Suraj Lotilkar stated that Goa were in need of a left-arm fast bowler and Arjun showed interest. He added that they generally recruit professionals, and if he fits into the team’s requirements, he would be picked.

“We are in need of a left-arm pacer and Arjun has shown interest. We generally recruit professionals and if he suits our team’s requirements he will be picked. It is up to our selectors.” Lotilkar was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Arjun, in his two T20 matches, picked up two wickets, and conceded 67 runs in a total of seven overs. He also scored 3 runs in the two matches for Mumbai against Puducherry and Haryana. Mumbai’s chief selector Salil Ankola said that Arjun is a talented cricketer but needs some game time to prove his abilities.

“We picked him for the Ranji Trophy last year but he could not make the XI. He is an extremely talented boy and all he needs is some match time so that he can prove his abilities. I hope this switch will serve that purpose,” said Salil Ankola. Arjun’s father and a legendary former India batter Sachin Tendulkar confirmed Arjun’s switch.

Tendulkar expressed that Arjun needs to get some match time at this point while he also believes that this switch would improve the likelihood of his son playing in more competitive games. “Getting maximum game time on the ground is important for Arjun at this juncture of his career. We believe that the shift will improve the probability of Arjun featuring in more competitive matches. He is embarking on a new phase of his cricketing career,” said Sachin Tendulkar.
