Ashes 2021-22: Member of broadcast crew tests positive for COVID-19 during Adelaide Test

A member of the broadcast crew has been tested positive for COVID-19 during the ongoing edition of the Ashes. The official Twitter handle of the Adelaide Oval put forth the development on Sunday, December 19. The match officials and the authorities are currently trying to find more information on the matter.

South Australia health personnel are currently trying to determine the close contacts of the coronavirus infected broadcast member. Three days of the second Ashes Test between England and Australia have already witnessed three days of play.

“We have been advised that a member of a broadcast crew has returned a positive COVID result as part of their scheduled testing. SA Health are aware and we have begun to trace and notify this person’s close contacts.

“In accordance with our pre-planning we undertaking a deep clean of the relevant areas and are facilitating alternative facilities for relevant officials as required.”

Australia on the driver’s seat in second Ashes Test

After their thumping nine-wicket win at The Gabba in Brisbane, Steve Smith and Co. have done brilliantly in the second Test as well. The Aussies declared their innings on 473 for the loss of nine wickets. After electing to bat first, Marnus Labuschagne was the star of the show as he scored 103 runs with the help of eight fours.

David Warner and skipper Smith were unlucky to not have reached their hundreds, having got out in the 90s. Alex Carey also chipped in with a half-century. Mitchell Starc and Michael Neser’s cameos helped Australia as well. Thereafter, the Aussies bowled the Three Lions out for 236, taking a lead of 237 runs. Starc accounted for four scalps.

Nathan Lyon got three wickets and was the most economical bowler for the home team, having bowled 11 maidens out of 28 overs. Barring Joe Root and Dawid Malan, none of the English batters could show resistance during their stay in the middle.

England collapsed like a house of cards after Malan and Root put on 138 runs for the third wicket off 45.3 overs. At stumps on Day three, Australia were leading by 282 runs with nine wickets left in their second innings.
