Ashwell Prince, former South African batsman and convener of selectors for the national team, lashed out at the Proteas after their humiliating exit at the hands of India in the virtual quarter-final in the Champions Trophy. This is not for the first time that
This is not for the first time that South Africa has been shown the door in an ICC Tournament, but this time hopes were much higher because they are the No. 1 side and comprise of the No.1 ODI batsman and the No. 1 ODI bowler as well. Apart from that, there were three other batsmen and 1 other bowler who are in the Top 10 rankings.
In a series of tweets after the match, he expressed his concern over the attitude of the team, rather than the players. In one of those tweets, he took a dig at the ODI skipper AB de Villiers, who had one of the worst outings in an ICC event. Even though he looked unlike himself in the series against England and in the IPL, his 20 runs in 3 innings will be a big blow apart from the team’s performance in the last two games of the tournament.
Though the skipper had an off-time with injuries and poor form, his absence in Test cricket was attributed to focusing on the Champions Trophy. But after the Team’s early departure, and because of choosing on the tournaments to play and not performing on the big stage, he has opened the debate for his future as captain of the side before the World Cup in 2019.
This is what Prince tweeted
Perhaps it's time that @OfficialCSA dictates to players when they may have the honor of representing this country instead of other way round

Ashwell Prince, bluntly pointed out the same in his tweet as he said that Cricket South Africa should have the authority to allow players to play, rather than players dictating their choices. The fact that most South Africans insist that Faf du Plessis leads the ODI side because, even though AB de Villiers is one of the best ODI batsmen in history, he may not be the best man to lead them.
More so, they also emphasize that cricketers are “employees that should respect contracts” and should not prioritize IPL and other T20 leagues.
