The much-awaited clash between India and Pakistan took place on Wednesday in the ongoing Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The broadcasters and sponsors of the tournament were keen to make the most of the blockbuster game and same was the scene in the betting market. The racket was busted by the police in the Uttar Pradesh as they arrested five people for betting on Indo-Pak match on Wednesday.

Team India won the game handsomely by eight wickets and never gave any chance to their arch-rivals to make a comeback in the match. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kedar Jadhav were the heroes. Both the teams will face-off once again in a crucial Super Four clash on Sunday and no wonder it will be a close encounter with Pakistan looking to answer their critics.

20 mobile phones seized

Based on the tip, the house in the Newmandi Police Station area was raided by the police and they arrested five persons. Along with them, their belongings worth Rs 9.5 Lakhs, a laptop and 20 mobile phones were also seized.

“Five persons have been arrested for allegedly betting on the India-Pakistan match of the ongoing Asia Cup tournament. Besides, Rs 9,50,000 in cash, a laptop and 20 mobile phones were seized from their possession after raiding a house in the Newmandi police station area Wednesday night,” the SP of the city Ombir Singh said.

This is not the first time that the game has been brought into disrepute due to the off-field controversies. With the possibility of a couple more matches between the two countries, the police will have to keep an eye on such illegal betting rackets as they look to make the most of the high-voltage encounters.

Meanwhile, India will face Bangladesh in the first Super Four game at the Dubai International Stadium on Friday whereas Pakistan and Afghanistan will lock horns in Abu Dhabi.
