The five-match ODI series between Australia and England has been disappointingly lop-sided as it followed uncompetitive cricket from the hosts. For Australia, the ODI series has been a turnaround after they won Ashes series with a scoreline of 4-nil. They have been outclassed in all three games and in all three departments. The English team has time and again proved their bold attitude in the shorter format.
The lacklustre performance that they put up in Test cricket has transformed into a fearless, thumping approach in the ODIs. In the three matches so far, English bowlers have been able to put the cat among the pigeons, whereas the current form of Jos Buttler and skipper Eoin Morgan has put them beyond the home team’s league. On the other hand, Australia will want to play for the pride and win every match here on.
In the fourth ODI, we can expect a fired up performance from both the teams. Expect England to experiment with the XI given they’ve already bagged the series and Australia will want to ensure they field the best possible team that gives them the highest chance of a win.
Australia
For the fourth ODI, Australia will be without the man-in-form Aaron Finch who has already scored two hundred in three matches so far, due to a minor hamstring injury. The selectors have called up Glenn Maxwell as a replacement. Except for the forced change, the Australian team is expected to step on the field with the same bunch. Finch’s injury might as well be a blessing in disguise for Travis Head who is most likely to replace the right-hander. Travis Head was dropped for the third ODI after his inconsistent show.
The bowling department will be led by Mitchell Starc, who will have Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa and Josh Hazlewood for company. The wicketkeeper Tim Paine and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis will also feature in playing XI.
Probable XI: David Warner, Travis Head, Cameron White, Steve Smith (C), Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, Tim Paine (wk), Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa.
England
It is unlikely that England with tinker with their opening combination and could well go with Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy, followed by Alex Hales and Test skipper Joe Root. Eoin Morgan will certainly bat at number four followed by Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali. The visitor’ bowling unit has been on song thus far in the series. Having said that, Moeen Ali whose batting skills came as a boon for Englishmen needs to do more with the ball.
Pacer Liam Plunkett is unlikely to make it to the XI after he injured his left hamstring in the third ODI. Seamer Tom Curran, who debuted in the Ashes, is likely to replace Plunkett. Other than that, the England team looks rock solid and will be raring to go.
Probable XI: Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Alex Hales, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan (C), Jos Buttler (wk), Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood, Tom Curran.
