If it was India ending the day on a high on the second day, Sunday has belonged to Australia in Perth albiet just. The Indian bowlers breathed fire in the second innings to keep the batsmen on the tenterhooks but the visitors conceded a 43-run lead which has pegged them back in the game slightly. Australia ended the day on 132/4 with the total lead of 175 runs and India will look to bowl them out as soon as possible tomorrow.

It wasn’t easy by any stretch of imagination to bat in the second innings as the Aussie openers Marcus Harris and Aaron Finch gutted it out. Rather one would say that they were lucky to be in the middle after 10 overs. While Harris was dropped in the first slip, Finch really didn’t have any idea of what was happening. He was hit on the finger soon off Mohammed Shami and might get ruled out of the series.

This was an unlikely opening for the tourists as Jasprit Bumrah castled Hariss as he misjudged the length of the ball and shouldered arms only for the top of his off-stump to get disturbed. Soon Shaun Marsh and Travis Head walked back in disgust off short balls after stitching small but crucial partnerships.

Meanwhile, Usman Khawaja was also lucky to be out there but he scrapped his way through to 41 and remained unbeaten until the stumps. He will be the key for the hosts on the fourth day while the skipper Tim Paine is supporting him well at the other end to keep Australia ahead in the game.

Kohli reigns supreme

Earlier in the day, India were rocked in the first over itself by Nathan Lyon who induced an edge off Ajinkya Rahane. But Virat Kohli, who was animated on the field later in the day, didn’t deter and batted bravely to notch up his 25th Test century. He was dismissed by Pat Cummins finally on 123 in a controversial manner which opened the floodgates.

The long tail didn’t wag much for India and despite Rishabh Pant’s defiant 36, they were bowled out for just 283 runs, 43 adrift of Australia’s first innings total. It was another exhilarating day of Test cricket as no team has the definite upper hand and it all depends on how the first session pans out on the fourth day.
