Former England skipper Michael Vaughan is probably the most puzzled man to see Australia perform this way at home, but no one is oblivious to the reasons which left them so exposed to a quality Indian side and are on the verge of going 2-1 down in the series. This Aussie side is certainly of no match to the side Vaughan was up against during his times.

The Indian side had posted a 399-run target banking on two gritty knocks from Rishabh Pant and Mayank Agarwal before the lunch break on Day 4. Virat Kohli and his troops kept marching on ruthlessly and picked wickets at regular intervals. After picking up the 8th wicket at 215 runs with over eight overs and additional time remaining, it seemed like India will draw curtains today.

But a gritty knock from Patrick Cummins alongside Nathan Lyon helped them battle out over 14 remaining overs and forced the play into Day 5. Cummins showed great technique and smashed some beautiful drives, which unfortunately was their best batting effort by a long distance in this game.

Michael Vaughan tweeted saying if the number eight is their best batsman technically, its a huge concern for the Kangaroos. Indians aren’t oblivious to getting smacked hard by a number eight, having faced something similar against Sam Curran in England a few months ago.

Here’s what the former English skipper tweeted

Heavy rains forecasted on Sunday

Much to the disappointment of Indian team and fans, some heavy showers are forecast to hit the Melbourne shores on Sunday, the final day of the Boxing Day Test. Having brought this on themselves, Kohli and company would be left devastated if no play is possible on Day 5 and the game ends up being a stalemate.

The on-field umpires decided to give the Indian side the extra 30 minutes, which is usually given when the officials reckon a result is possible. That wasn’t to be the case as Patrick Cummins remained unbeaten on 61 off 103 balls and will continue his partnership with Lyon, which currently stands at 43.
