After five superlative seasons of the franchise-based T20 league, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is all set to host its sixth edition. Earlier, the sixth edition of Bangladesh Premier League was set to start in the month of October, however, country’s lone T20 tournament is now scheduled to start on 5 January after a meeting between the tournament’s governing council members and franchises representatives at Mirpur.

Jalal Younus, BPL’s technical committee chairman, believes that the general election of the nation will commence in the last week of December. In lieu of that, the committee chairman believes that January 5 to February 8 will probably turn out to be the best time to host the sixth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League.

Next edition of BPL from January 5 to February 8

He said, “We want to organize the next edition of BPL from January 5 to February 8. As per our knowledge, the next general election is expected to commence in the last week of December, so we have decided this time-frame for our upcoming edition of BPL. Before that, we want to complete the players draft in October, though we are yet to finalize its date.”

It is believed that BCB also changed the schedule in order to provide adequate security for BPL, and instead opted for a three ODIs and two Tests against Zimbabwe. With the general election to be held in the country at that time, Bangladesh Cricket Board officials weren’t sure whether they will be able to provide adequate security to its players and decided to host in January instead.  Further, it is known that various security agencies have already informed the board about their unavailability due to the election duties.

Bangladesh National Team

On the other hand, Bangladesh’s National Cricket team is yet again been able to prove their stature in the limited overs arena after winning three-match one-day series against the host West Indies comprehensively. Tamim Iqbal yet again proved why he has been termed as one of the best players Bangladesh has every produced after he managed to score two centuries and a fifty. Promoting Shakib Al Hasan at the number three spot also turned out to be a blessing. It will be interesting to see as how Bangladesh Team can take positives out of this series and move forward.
