After a hat-trick of defeats, the Adelaide Strikers bounced back with a huge 63-run win over the Melbourne Renegades who now lost all the nine matches played. An 80-run stand for the 5th wicket between Jonathan Wells (58 off 38) and Matthew Short (41 off 28) powered the Strikers to 173/6.

Beau Webster (49 off 33) and Shaun Marsh (21 off 29) were the only batsmen to reach double digits for the Renegades who were bowled out for only 110 in 17.4 overs. Peter Siddle bagged three wickets while Rashid Khan and Travis Head picked up two wickets apiece.

Melbourne Renegades continue their losing streak:

9* – Melbourne Renegades lost all the nine matches they played in this BBL season; the first-ever instance of a team losing nine successive matches in a Big Bash League edition. Sydney Thunder lost all the eight matches they played in the 2012-13 season; the previous worst losing streak in a BBL season.

In fact, Renegades’ losing streak is now the 2nd worst losing streak for any team in the BBL history. Thunder lost 19 consecutive matches across 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons.


3 – Adelaide Strikers now have won each of their last three BBL matches against the Melbourne Renegades; their first instance of hat-trick wins over the Renegades. They won the game hosted by the Docklands with an 18-run margin earlier this season and secured a 32-run victory during the last season’s fixture hosted by Geelong.


A big win for the Adelaide Strikers:

63 – The 63-run win by the Adelaide Strikers in this game is their 3rd biggest BBL win in terms of runs. Their biggest win came against Sydney Thunder by 77 runs while defending their total of 178 in the 2016-17 season. They also defeated the Renegades by 67 runs during the 2011-12 season also at the Adelaide Oval.


Rashid Khan @ 50 wickets in BBL:

1 – Rashid Khan became the first overseas player in the history of Big Bash League to claimed 50 wickets. He achieved this milestone by dismissing Mohammad Nabi and went past Dwayne Bravo’s tally of 49 wickets. He is overall the 18th player to bag 50 wickets in the BBL thus far.


33 – Number of matches Rashid Khan needed for 50 wickets in the Big Bash League; the fastest player to the milestone. Ben Laughlin, Jason Behrendroff and Andrew Tye needed 35 matches each for 50 BBL wickets. Rashid is on the top in the list of quickest to 50 BBL wickets in terms of innings taken bettering Ben Laughlin (34).


51 – Rashid is only the 3rd player to bag 50 wickets for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League. Ben Laughlin picked up 60 wickets while Michael Neser also has 51 wickets for the Strikers.


A big stand between Wells and Short:

80 – The 80-run stand between Jonathan Wells and Matthew Short is Adelaide Strikers’ 3rd biggest partnership for 5th or lower wicket. Brad Hodge and Alex Ross added 115 for the 5th wicket against Melbourne Stars in 2015-16 while Alex Ross shared an 87-run stand with Travis Head against Brisbane Heat in 2014-15 also for the 5th wicket. Nathan Reardon and Shakib Al Hasan also put up an 80-run 5th wicket partnership against Sydney Sixers in 2013-14.
