BBL 2020-21: Match 12, THU vs SCO – Milestones for Ferguson and Sams, Yet another duck for Hales and more stats

Perth Scorchers remain winless in the ongoing BBL 2020-21 as Sydney Thunder sealed a 7-wicket win at the Manuka Oval on Tuesday. Scorchers couldn’t get going against some tight bowling by Thunder as they ended up with 152/5 despite an unbeaten 41-ball 52 by Mitchell Marsh. In reply, Thunder lost both their openers at the score of 34 in 6.4 overs. Debutant Oliver Davies scored a 22-ball 36 while Ben Cutting finished with an unbeaten 16-ball 29 batting alongside Callum Ferguson (61 off 53) to take Thunder over the winning line.

Thunder’s dominance over Scorchers:

5-1 – Sydney Thunder has won five of the six matches they played against Perth Scorchers in the BBL since the 2017-18 season. Until the 2016-17 edition of BBL, the Scorchers held the domination over Thunder with five wins out of six meetings.


Ferguson and Marsh move up the charts:

1311 – Mitchell Marsh, with 1311 runs, is now the 2nd highest run-getter in the BBL for Perth Scorchers by going past Michael Klinger’s 1284-run tally and is only behind his brother Shaun Marsh (1435). The unbeaten fifty during THU vs SCO game was Mitchell’s 8th 50+ score in the BBL; the joint 2nd most 50+ scores by any player for the Scorchers. Shaun leads the list with as many as 14 fifties while Klinger has eight 50+ scores.

1035 – Callum Ferguson, when he went past his individual score of 26, became only the 3rd player to amass 1000 BBL runs for the Sydney Thunder. Usman Khawaja (1425) and Shane Watson (1014) are the other two players with 1000+ BBL runs for the Thunder team.

Ferguson has seven scores of 50+ for the Thunder franchise which are the 2nd most behind Khawaja’s 11 50+ scores. Watson and Mike Hussey also have seven scores in excess of 50 runs.


Sams @ 50 wickets:

50 – The wicket of Ashton Turner was the 50th wicket in the BBL of Daniel Sams for the Sydney Thunder. He is now the first player to claim 50 BBL wickets for the Thunder franchise.


Yet another duck for Hales:

24 – Alex Hales now has been dismissed for a duck on 24 occasions in Twenty20 cricket which are the most for any England player in this format. Five of 24 ducks in Hales’ T20 career have coming in 2020 only making him just the 3rd player with as many as five T20 ducks this year. Rashid Khan (6) and Brandon King (5) are the other two players with five or more ducks in the Twenty20 format in 2020.

4 – Hales has been dismissed for a duck on four occasions while playing for the Sydney Thunder; all the four coming in 2020 only – Two during January month and two in the past week. He is only the 2nd player after Daniel Sams (4 in 2019) to be dismissed for a duck on four occasions in a calendar year in the BBL.

  


Milestone match for Cutting and Marsh:

50 – The Tuesday’s match was 50th appearance in the Big Bash League of Mitchell Marsh for Perth Scorchers. He is now the 4th player to feature in 50 BBL games for the Scorchers. Marsh did complete 2000 runs in the Twenty20 format when he went past his individual score of 31.

100 – Ben Cutting, during the THU vs SCO game, completed 100 T20 appearances on Australian soil. He is the 8th player to feature in as many as 100 matches in the Twenty20 format in Australia.
