The Board of Control Cricket India (BCCI), on Thursday(March 9) , announced that it had filed an official complaint with the International Cricket Council on the wake of the DRS controversy. BCCI CEO Rahul Johri has made the complaint against the Australian captain Steve Smith and Peter Handscomb after the governing body failed to levy any charges against the two players in the DRS ruckus under its Code of Conduct.

Johri made the complaint in less than 48 hours of the incident as per the guidelines of the ICC. The complaint surrounds to a Level 2 breach of action against the Spirit of Cricket. With no official sanctions made against the Australian captain, BCCI in a press release had requested ICC to take on the matter the fact that the Australian skipper had himself admitted this incident to his “Brain fade”.

Smith, looked over at the dressing room following his leg before wicket dismissal for some help from the team on a referral, which is against the laws of the game. Smith, looked at the dressing room after having a discussion with the non-striker Handscomb. The umpires and the opposition captain got involved after the ugly move from the Australian.

Virat Kohli, clearly agitated was quick to point this out to the on-field Umpire who in return refrained Smith from looking up at the dressing room. Kohli was on the verge of branding his counterpart and World no 1 test batsman “cheater” in his explosive press conference following India’s 75 run victory at Bengaluru. The Indian captain was less than convinced with the explanation that was given by the Australian at the Press conference following the match.

The controversy blew in proportion with the respective boards sending out statements for their respective captains following this major fiasco. Cricket Australia’s Chief Executive James Sutherland, issued a media release for Steve Smith even going to the extent of terming Kohli’s allegations outrageous. BCCI, in firm defence of Virat Kohli and his team, issued a statement in context to the DRS rule as stated in the Law book of the game.
