English cricketers have a track record of getting into controversy because of their misbehaviour or misconduct outside the cricket field. England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes along with Alex Hales was dropped from the Ashes following a brawl with a man in a pub earlier.
Now, Ben Duckett who was set to travel to West Indies for a tournament with England Lion’s side is dropped from Lion’s side. The cricketer was in Australia with the England Lions side and was set to feature in a warm-up game against Cricket Australia XI. Duckett was involved in an incident at the bar where he reportedly poured a drink over England pacer James Anderson. The English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had suspended the 23-year-old after the incident.
The Lions are involved in a training camp in Australia which started in the month of November. After this, the side will travel to West Indies where they will play 4-day games as well as one-day series. The national selector James Whitaker announced the 22-man squad which will travel to the Caribbean.
He said that “We have selected a total of 22 players for these two series in the West Indies, to ensure we gain the most value in terms of assessing players in both first-class and one-day cricket.
Hameed returns
20-year-old Haseeb Hameed who made his debut for England against India earlier in the year is also named in the squad along with Jamie Porter and Toby Roland-Jones who were also injured earlier.
“Haseeb Hameed, Jamie Porter and Toby Roland-Jones are all available again after injuries – Jamie and Toby after working exceptionally hard on the ECB’s Pace Programme over the last couple of months,” said Whitaker. 19-year-old Sam Curran too has been named in the side.
Ben Foakes and Mason Crane, who are probables for the remaining two Ashes games against Australia are also named in the squad that will travel to the Island for the four-day games. “We have included two members of the Ashes tour squad, Ben Foakes and Mason Crane, for the four-day matches, with the possibility of either or both of them leaving the Lions tour early if they are selected in the England squad for the two Tests in New Zealand in March and April,” said the national selector.
