A day after the Supreme Court axed two of the top BCCI officials, former captain Sourav Ganguly got his named in the race as the replacement contender. The apex court sacked the BCCI President Anurag Thakur and the BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke yesterday after a long tussle between the board and Lodha Panel ended. The implementations of the suggestions put forth by the Lodha committee saw many of the top office bearers see an end to their positions.

Any office bearer who is found to be in conflict with the recommendations made by the Lodha committee is bound to demit the office. The sacking also meant that there was a need to find the right replacement for the top posts. Along with the vice-presidents of the zonal associates, it was the name of Sourav Ganguly that was running in as the top contender for the post of BCCI President. The former Indian captain recently eased out the discussion by saying it is too early to take a call.

As per quotes in TOI, Ganguly said, “It’s better not to take my name. There is no reason to take my name. It’s too early.”

Ganguly is currently the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). He added that the people in BCCI have no choice but to implement the suggestions.

“We have got no choice. Nobody has a choice but to implement them. I still have two more years in the position. The recommendations have put a cap of three years for one post,” he added.

Earlier in the day, there were rumors about Ganguly being ineligible for the president post because of this reason. Many of the incumbent officials in the state associations are also expected to vacate. CAB is no different and Ganguly mentioned that he has called a meeting for the office bearers to discuss the same.

“I have called for a meeting of all office-bearers tomorrow at 5 p.m. We will find a way out. It’s not that there are no replacements. Again, we all have to implement it, there’s no way out,” conceded the former Indian captain.
