Chris Lynn's IPL 10 future in jeopardy

Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Chris Lynn who took the tournament by storm after smashing a 41 ball 93 in Kolkata Knight Rider’s opening game of IPL 10 against the Gujarat Lions is most likely to miss the remainder of the tournament after hurting his shoulder while fielding during the match against the Mumbai Indians. Despite speculations that he won’t be taking further part in the tournament, nothing has been officially announced yet but his chances of donning the KKR colours again in this season looks bleak.

It will certainly be a big blow for KKR going into the tournament as he proved his hard-hitting and match-winning prowess in the opening match of the tournament. Firstly their decision to play Lynn in the XI was a good call and then to send him to open the innings with the captain Gautam Gambhir was yet another master stroke.

This is the 3rd time Lynn sustained an injury on the same shoulder in the last couple of years.  He fell awkwardly on his shoulder while attempting a difficult catch of Jos Buttler near the long-off boundary. After getting he immediately clenched his shoulder and looked in severe pain. He was attended by the team physio Andrew Leipus immediately.

“We are awaiting the results of the scans to Chris Lynn’s shoulder which he dislocated on the field,” Kallis was quoted as saying in his column for the Times of India. “It is a notoriously difficult area of the body to heal, so these are nervous times. He will undoubtedly need a substantial period of rest, and may even miss the rest of the tournament, which would be desperately disappointing for him and our fans after seeing what he is capable of doing during the first two games.”

Brisbane Heats for whom Lynn plays in the Big Bash League were also scrutinising on his condition with manager Andrew McShea also commenting that it is unfortunate for Lynn who had already suffered a couple of injuries in the same area before.

“We’ll stay in close contact through this initial process as we get an idea of what the extent of the injury is and what the options are for him,” Heat manager. It’s unfortunate for Chris to sustain another injury to the shoulder that has troubled him in the past. It’s not the sort of birthday you would wish for, and the best wishes of the club and our fans go out to him.”
