Barbados Tridents started the 2020 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) with a six-run victory over the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. However, after losses to the St Lucia Zouks and Trinbago Knight Riders, Jason Holder and Co find themselves at the bottom-half of the points table. They will now be facing the Patriots on Tuesday, August 25, this time at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad.
Having already beaten them earlier, the Tridents will again be fancying their chances. The Patriots, on the other hand, need to find a way to halt their losing streak. In all their three games, they had their moments, but couldn’t capitalise on the same. Rayad Emrit’s men have the apt blend of youth and experience, and have to stitch together some wins before things get out of hand for them.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch at the venue is known for producing some high-scoring affairs. But being the first game to be played this season, it remains to be seen how the track behaves. Teams may like to field first and see the nature of the strip when the opposition bats on it. Spinners are likely to play an important part. There are no chances of rain with the temperature around the 31 degrees Celsius mark.
Playing Combinations
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
The Patriots have found run-scoring tough. Evin Lewis and Chris Lynn, two of the world’s most explosive batters, have played at strike-rates of 126.78 and 116.66 respectively. Ben Dunk and Denesh Ramdin have scored 68 runs each, but both of them have strained with strike-rates as well.
Joshua Da Silva has 42 runs and he has to improve on his scoring rate. In bowling, Emrit has been their standout performer with six wickets at an economy of 5.54. Jaggesar has been hard to get away as well. Sohail Tanvir and Sheldon Cottrell have done their bit, picking up four and three wickets.
Predicted XI
Chris Lynn, Evin Lewis, Joshua Da Silva, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Ben Dunk, Kieran Powell, Sohail Tanvir, Rayad Emrit (C), Ish Sodhi, Sheldon Cottrell, Joss-Russ Jaggesar
Barbados Tridents
The Tridents have mostly depended on Jason Holder and Charles in the batting department with 99 and 91 runs respectively. Even as Charles has performed in the powerplay, the Tridents’ skipper has been taking charge in the death overs. Hope has 58 runs, but at a terrible strike-rate of 95.08.
It’s time for the rest of their batting to step up. Among their bowlers, Rashid Khan has tasted the most success with four wickets, though he went wicketless against the Knights. Spinners Mitchell Santner and Hayden Walsh Jr haven’t bowled much in the last two games, raising a lot of eyebrows.
Predicted XI
Johnson Charles, Shai Hope (wk), Corey Anderson, Kyle Mayers, Jonathan Carter, Jason Holder (C), Ashley Nurse, Raymon Reifer, Mitchell Santner, Rashid Khan, Hayden Walsh Jr
