The Jamaica Tallawahs have huffed and puffed in the 2020 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Despite not being in the best of form, Rovman Powell and Co are in contention to qualify for the semis. With three wins from seven matches, the Tallawahs fate hangs by a thread. They are coming off a rather hefty 19-run defeat at the hands of Kieron Pollard’s Trinbago Knight Riders.

Their next match is against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the first of Thursday’s doubleheader at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba in Trinidad. In their last meeting, the Tallawahs got the better of the Patriots by as many as 37 runs. The Patriots have strained in the entire tournament and the Tallawahs should fancy their chances and go one step ahead in the forthcoming round.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch has assisted the spinners to a large extent and it’s not expected to change even next time around. But the batsmen have also enjoyed their stint as the boundaries have also come by. There are chances of rain in the morning and hence, interruptions could take place. The temperature will be around the 30 degrees Celsius mark. The humidity is expected to be mostly in the mid-70s.

Playing Combinations

Jamaica Tallawahs

The Tallawahs have depended heavily on Glenn Phillips at the top of the order. The New Zealander has 248 runs from seven games at an average of 41.33. Andre Russell has started to come into his after as after his half-century against TKR, he has 166 runs at a decent strike-rate of 134.95.

The rest of the batting hasn’t fired just yet. In bowling, it goes without saying that Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Sandeep Lamichhane will hold the key. The duo has a combined tally of 23 wickets at an economy around 4.5. Carlos Brathwaite and Fidel Edwards have been pretty impressive as well.

Probable XI

Chadwick Walton, Glenn Phillips (wk), Jermaine Blackwood, Nkrumah Bonner, Rovman Powell (C), Ander Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Asif Ali, Sandeep Lamichhane, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fidel Edwards

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

For the Patriots, Evin Lewis has been the standout batsman. The southpaw, in seven matches, has notched 197 runs at an average of 28.14. Denesh Ramdin and Ben Dunk have around 140 runs each, but need to bat a tad more fluently. There’s nothing much to talk about the rest of the batting unit.

In the bowling department, Rayad Emrit have been decent. The Patriots skipper has 10 wickets to his name at an economy of 5.88. Imran Khan and Jon-Russ Jaggesar haven’t given many runs away either. Performances from the rest of the bowlers haven’t been good by any stretch of the imagination.

Probable XI

Chris Lynn, Kieran Powell, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Ben Dunk, Nick Kelly, Rayad Emrit (C), Evin Lewis, Sheldon Cottrell, Ish Sodhi, Imran Khan, Jon-Russ Jaggesar

Probable Top Performers

Andre Russell– Jamaica Tallawahs | Rayad Emrit– St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
