IPL 2024: Punjab Kings’ strongest predicted playing XI against Lucknow Super Giants

Shikhar Dhawan and his Punjab Kings side were brought crashing down to earth after their loss to RCB last Monday. With a win against Delhi Capitals in front of their home fans, Punjab Kings began the season well.

Virat Kohli’s 77 and death overs bowling woes saw Punjab Kings lose their first game of the IPL 2024 season. The next game is against the Lucknow Super Giants in the only game on Saturday. The match is set to be played at the Ekana Stadium with the home team themselves coming into the game with the loss in their last game. 

Punjab Kings will hope to heap more misery on Lucknow Super Giants. While the batting has been good this year, it is the bowling that will worry Shikhar Dhawan. The Punjab side is currently seeing Sam Curran their costliest purchase hit the purple patch. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan too has shown good form with the bat in the early stages of the season.

Punjab Kings skipper Shikhar Dhawan has scored 67 runs from 2 matches so far. The veteran batter was looking good against RCB before falling for 45 runs. Shikhar Dhawan has been out of international cricket for over 15 months. With the T20 World Cup coming up the veteran batter needs to strike form if he has made his case for an unlikely comeback.

With just 17 runs from 2 games, Jonny Bairstow hasn’t set the IPL on fire. The English batter can take the attack to the opposition and is a dangerous batter on his day. LSG bowlers should be wary as they could very well bear the brunt of Bairstow’s fire-breathing blade on Saturday.

Middle Order – Jitesh Sharma and Shashank Singh

Indian wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma began his season with just 9 runs against Delhi. In the game against RCB, the 30-year-old scored a rapid 27 to return to decent batting form. With the selectors looking on and Sanju Samson breathing down his neck, Jitesh Sharma needs to show his true potential with the bat.

Shashank Singh’s name caused a lot of confusion during the IPL 2024 auction. The veteran domestic star though showed his big hitting prowess with an unbeaten 21 off 8 balls against RCB. More of the same will be expected from him when he faces LSG in Lucknow on Saturday.

All-rounders – Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, and Harshal Patel

English star Sam Curran has been one of the standout performers with the bat and ball so far for PBKS. The 25-year-old began with 63 vs Delhi before scoring 23 against RCB. His bowling form is a bit of a worry but the PBKS star has enough talent to bounce back.

Liam Livingstone has been the enforcer with the bat and his big-hitting exploits have kept Sikandar Raza out of the team. The surface in Lucknow will need PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan to trust the 30-year-old to come up with the good with the ball as well.

Harshal Patel was one of the costliest buys for PBKS during the IPL Auction 2024. The out-of-favor Indian star has been struggling with the ball picking 3 wickets so far. With the Ekana stadium known to favour variations with the ball, this is the best chance for Harshal Patel to come good.

Bowlers – Harpreet Brar, Arshdeep Singh, Kagiso Rabada, and Rahul Chahar

Left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar nearly got PBKS over the line with the ball in the game against RCB. The 28-year-old has been economical with the ball and accounted for some key wickets.

Arshdeep Singh has continued his good form with the ball and has been a go-to bowler for Shikhar Dhawan. The 25-year-old will look to carry on the momentum for his side in the game against Lucknow Super Giants.

South African pacer Kagiso Rabada has picked 3 wickets so far and bowled with pace and fire. The 28-year-old has been leading the pace bowling reserves for PBKS so far this season. With just 1 wicket from 2 games, Rahul Chahar is under fire to show his real class with the ball. The leg-spinner needs a good season of IPL to force his way back into Team India.
