The 2022 T20 World Cup is just a few months away and all the teams have already started their preparations by playing T20I matches. The T20 World Cup will be played in Australia, and the defending champions will also have the home advantage working in their favor.

Talking about team India, the Men in Blue have also played several T20I bilateral series with some top cricketing nations to prepare themselves for the all-important tournament. To note, mighty India crashed out of the 2021 T20 World Cup after losing their first two group stage matches and will not want to replicate the mistakes they made during the previous ICC tournament. On that note, let us take a look at-

Three mistakes from the last edition of T20 WC India shouldn’t make

3. Not Getting a good start with the bat during field restrictions

One of the biggest factors for team India to crash out of the competition was not able to get a steady start with the bat during the mandatory power play overs. The first six overs play a very vital role for the batting side to set a base for the big score in their allotted 20 overs.

During the first game against Pakistan in the 2021 World Cup, the Men in Blue lost three crucial wickets inside the field restrictions and could only manage to score 30+ runs. Batters Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Suryakumar Yadav were sent back to the pavilion inside the powerplay.

The same pattern was also displayed during the second game against New Zealand, as the Men in Blue could not even reach the 40-run mark in six overs and lost two wickets of KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan, with India scoring just 110 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

2. Making changes in the batting order after one loss

After losing their first match against Pakistan by ten wickets, the Indian team management decided to shuffle the batting order for some reason. As compared to the first match against Pakistan, where Rohit and Rahul opened the batting, team India decided to include Ishan Kishan in the playing XI and put him in the opening slot with Rohit batting at number three.

Despite making changes in their batting order, not much was changed in team India’s fortune as they crossed the 100-run mark after putting all their efforts against the Kiwi side. Kishan, who was included in the squad, could not do any wonders for the Men in Blue as he was scalped by pacer Trent Boult after making just four runs and taking eight balls in his innings.

The Men in Blue, under the leadership of skipper Rohit, will not want to replicate this mistake and will want to show faith in their batters by sticking to them even if they fail in one or two matches.

1. Preferring fresh faces over experience

Despite several big names present in the team, team India also ignored their two prominent spinners in the form of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. The likes of Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy were included in team India’s squad after performing well during the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Both spinners were given a reality check at the World Cup as both of them went wicketless in the tournament. While Varun was thrashed by the Pakistani openers during the first match, he gave away only 23 runs in the second match against New Zealand but could not scalp any wickets.

Chahar played only one match in the tournament which was also India’s last league stage game against Namibia. However, the leg-spinner didn’t have the best of days as he could not grab any wickets in that match as team India’s campaign ended following their victory against an associate nation.
