4. Gujarat Titans’ spending INR 6 crore for Shivam Mavi

Shivam Mavi has been a proven performer in the Indian domestic circuit. He has featured in 36 List-A matches and bagged 59 wickets at an economy of 4.85. The 24-year-old set the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 ablaze with his spectacular performances and took 14 wickets in seven games at an economy of 4.15. The ace pacer has also shown his might in the international arena, grabbing a superb four-wicket haul on T20I debut, against Sri Lanka.

Mavi was in a rich vein of form leading into the IPL 2023 auction and thus, Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals went into a serious bidding duel to sign him. Finally, Gujarat outbid the Rajasthan franchise and picked the Uttar Pradesh pacer for INR 6 crore.

Mavi has not been quite successful in the lucrative T20 tournament. He has managed 30 wickets in 32 matches and leaked runs at an economy of 8.71. Also, the right-arm pacer had a miserable campaign in the last IPL, as he picked only five scalps in six matches, conceding runs at an alarming rate of 10.32.  Given Mavi has not been that consistent in the IPL in the recent past, GT might have overspent on him.
