Delhi Capitals picked a well-rounded side at the mega auction in 2022 with the hope to end their title drought at the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, they were rocked by COVID-19 mid-way through the season. Despite that, Rishabh Pant & Co. played some amazing cricket and put themselves in contention for the playoffs.

Unfortunately, Capitals lost their final group-stage game to Mumbai Indians and missed out on a playoff berth by a whisker. They had to remain content with the fifth spot. With the mini auction for the next season in sight, the team management would look to make necessary changes in their squad. We might witness players who have failed to deliver for the side be released from the squad.

Let us look at the players Delhi Capitals might release ahead of the auction:

5. Praveen Dubey

Praveen Dubey was roped in by Delhi Capitals in 2020 as an injury replacement for Amit Mishra. Though the leg-spinner went wicketless in the three matches in his debut season, the DC franchise liked what they saw in Praveen and decided to reinvest in him for the 2022 season.

The 29-year-old has been a consistent performer in the Karnataka white-ball circuit. Talking about the shortest format, Praveen has played 22 matches and taken 20 wickets at an economy of 7.13. However, the Azamgarh-born did not find a place in the DC line-up in the recently culminated season.

Rishabh Pant & Co. had quality spinners like Kuldeep Yadav & Axar Patel at their disposal which meant the Karnataka spinner was always a backup option. Moreover, the presence of Lalit Yadav in the XI gave another spin option making Pravin’s chances to get a game even bleaker.

Praveen being so low in the pecking order might warm the bench in the upcoming seasons as well. Hence, Delhi might release him in the near future.
