CWC 2023: Pakistan players hit by viral fever ahead of their match against Australia

Pakistan’s preparations for their next game in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia have been marred as several key players have been diagnosed with a viral chest infection during their stay in Bengaluru. According to reports, four to five players have been affected by severe chest infection leading to high fever and illness. Players such as Shaheen Afridi, Abdullah Shafique, Zaman Khan and Usama Mir are down with high fever.

Afridi was reportedly struck by a viral bacterial infection and the fast bowler immediately sought medical attention which included receiving antibiotic drips to help in his recovery. On the other hand, Shafique also succumbed to a severe high fever and is currently under the supervision of doctors.

As per a report in Samaa Tv, Zaman Khan also joined the list of the affected players along with Usama Mir who has been grappling with the condition for five days and has been put in quarantine as a precautionary measure. However, all of Mir’s medical tests yielded negative results. Pakistan’s media manager has also revealed that cricketers are showing signs of improvement and are on the path to recovery.

Meanwhile, the Babar Azam-led side will be desperate for a win in the upcoming fixture having been beaten by arch-rivals India in their previous fixture. After being put in to bat first, Pakistan were going well in the all-important clash as they were 155/2 after 29.3 overs.

Pakistan lost eight wickets for 26 runs against India

However, they suffered a dramatic collapse which saw them losing the last eight wickets for 26 runs. As a result, they were bundled out for 191 and later in the second innings, India chased down the target in 30.3 overs. Courtesy of their win, India continued their unbeaten record against Pakistan in World Cup extending their streak to 8-0.

Following their loss, the Babar Azam-led side is on the fourth spot on the points table with two wins from three matches having four points to their name. They will be eager to beat Australia in their next fixture and get back on the winning track.
