Punjab Kings registered a historic victory against Kolkata Knight Riders in their recent clash of the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024. Both sides faced off at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in the 42nd game of the tournament on Friday, April 26. Bowling first, Punjab Kings conceded 261 runs in the first innings.
As the target looked unachievable, Kings put forth an exceptional performance with the bat. After Bairstow’s marvellous century, the side managed to chase down the total and win the game by eight wickets, writing their names in the history books.

Bairstow was the Player of the Match after the successful run chase, as he amassed 108* runs in 48 deliveries, and after the clash, star PBKS batter Shashank Singh came forward to heap praise on the England opener.
"I hope Jonny eats the same thing in the next five matches, so that we can have the same results in the upcoming games. The vibe was positive in the dressing room, we had so much believe that we were not under any pressure at all," Shashank Singh was quoted as saying by India Today.

Furthermore, Shashank Singh talked about the pitch conditions at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, branding it a six-hitting ground, and hoped that he could continue his good form in the upcoming matches as well.
"Kolkata is a six hitting ground and obviously both teams batted well. I am batting well, I am hitting sixes, I hope I can continue like this but more important is for the team to win," Shashank said.
Shashank Singh played an unbeaten knock of 68 runs in 28 deliveries, helping his side win the game and register a historic win. The win saw Punjab Kings make their way up into the IPL standings. The side, having played nine games in the season so far, has now won three and lost the remaining six. The side sits in eighth place in the standings.
