IND vs ENG: Rohit Sharma hilariously sends back Jaiswal, Sarfaraz to continue batting on Day 4

India are in a commanding position on Day 4 of the second Test against England in Rajkot as they set them a daunting target of 557 runs in the fourth innings. The Rohit Sharma-led side started the day strong leading England by 322 runs and extended it way beyond 550 as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Sarfaraz Khan starred with the bat.

During India’s second innings, everyone was waiting for captain Rohit Sharma to declare after Sarfaraz and Jaiswal had completed their respective milestones. The duo even began walking towards the dressing room after the drinks break in the second session with India leading by 536 runs. However, captain Rohit Sharma hilariously sent them back to bat telling them that we haven’t declared yet.

He even gestured with his hands that why were they coming towards the dressing room. Sensing India’s declaration, England openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley had even run up towards the changing room to get ready to bat but had to return back to the field after Rohit asked Jaiswal and Sarfaraz to continue batting.

India finally declared an over later with 430 runs on the board and leading by 556 runs. Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 214* (236) with the help of 14 fours and 12 sixes and registered his second consecutive double-hundred in as many Tests. His 12 maximums are also the joint record for most sixes in a Test innings along with former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram who achieved the feat in 1996.

Out of his 12 maximums, three came against James Anderson off consecutive deliveries all in different parts of the ground. Apart from Jaiswal, debutant Sarfaraz Khan registered his second consecutive half-century in the format scoring 68* (72) with the help of six fours and three sixes.

Earlier in the day, Shubman Gill missed out on his second consecutive century in the series getting run out on 91 (151) in the first session.
