First win for Hardik Pandya as the MI skipper

For the second game in a row, the Delhi Capitals bowlers were taken to task. This time it was the Mumbai Indians who scored an imposing 235 runs from their 20 overs. Rishabh Pant won the toss and put the home team into bat on a hot day at the Wankhede Stadium.

Rohit Sharma was the top scorer with 49 runs before falling to Axar Patel. Ishan Kishan played well to score 42 runs before becoming the second wicket for Patel. Tim David was unbeaten on 45 while Romario Shepherd gave MI the much-needed boost in the final over. The West Indian star scored 32 runs against Anrich Nortje to end with 39 not out from 10 balls.

Powerplay: Overs 0.1 to 6 (Mandatory – 46/1)

Needing to chase a mammoth score of 235 to win, Delhi Capitals started slow. David Warner fell after scoring ten runs to Romario Shepherd caught by Hardik Pandya.

Delhi Capitals: 50 runs in 6.4 overs

Prithvi Shaw kept scoring runs at one end while Abhishek Porel was seen struggling. The 50 came in the seventh over with the required rate climbing at a steady pace.

Delhi Capitals: First Strategic Time-out (69/1 from 8 overs)

The introduction of Piyush Chawla seemed to help Prithvi Shaw open his shoulders. The 24-year-old hit the veteran spinner for 16 runs from his first over. This meant Delhi Capitals still needed 166 runs from 12 overs left to play.

Half-Century: Prithvi Shaw (Off 31 Balls)

Mumbai Indians bowlers saw Prithvi Shaw unleash his trademark shots on Sunday afternoon. The 24-year-old reached his 15th IPL fifty with a boundary against Gerald Coetzee.

Delhi Capitals: 100 runs from 10.2 overs

The challenge of chasing down a huge score was taken by youngsters Prithvi Shaw and Abhishek Porel. The two batters played some lusty shots to keep DC in the hunt with the bat.

Delhi Capitals: Second Strategic Time-out (138/2 from 14 overs)

Jasprit Bumrah bowled a terrific yorker to get rid of the set Prithvi Shaw to give MI fans some respite. Tristan Stubbs though came out and played some amazing shots to keep DC in the game. 

Stat Alert: 150 wickets for Jasprit Bumrah

The wicket of Abhishek Porel was the 150th wicket for Jasprit Bumrah in IPL history. He is now the second most successful bowler for Mumbai Indians after Lasith Malinga.

Delhi Capitals: 150 runs from 15.3 overs

Young Tristan Stubbs continued to dominate the MI bowlers and played a few innovative shots. With a six against Gerald Coetzee, the 150 came up for DC still needing 85 runs from 27 balls. 

Half-Century: Tristan Stubbs (Off 19 balls)

The struggling Delhi Capitals were kept in the hunt to chase down the big score thanks to Tristan Stubbs. The right-handed batter scored a brilliant fifty off just 19 balls.

Delhi Capitals: 200 runs from 19 overs

Romario Shepherd conceded 21 runs in the 19th over as Tristan Stubbs hit three sixes to give a glimmer of hope to DC. The wicket of Axar Patel though put cold water on such hopes.

End of the match: Delhi Capitals: 205/8 from 20 overs.

Mumbai Indians registered their first win of the season at the right time. The massive crowd at the Wankhede Stadium heaved a huge sigh of relief. Gerald Coetzee picked four wickets with the ball to record his best figures in IPL cricket so far.
