There have been a plethora of thrilling matches in the ongoing IPL 2023. Speaking of Sunday's doubleheader, we saw some explosive batting and bowling earlier today. Thereafter, the focus has shifted to the iconic Eden Gardens, where the hosts Kolkata Knight Riders are playing against Chennai Super Kings.
In the 33rd match of the Indian Premier League 2023, the KKR skipper Nitish Rana won the toss and elected to field first. However, his decision seemed to favour the visitors more than his own team. The CSK openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway, started well and played some good shots during their 73-run partnership. Moreover, they kept up a reasonable run rate as they lost their first wicket in the eighth over.
Just when both the openers looked well set to accelerate their innings, someone needed to step up from the KKR bowling unit to get the hosts a much-needed breakthrough. Consequently, the talented leg-spinner, Suyash Sharma was handed the ball to deliver for the team. He proved his captain's decision right as he took the wicket of Gaikwad on just the third ball of his bowling spell.
Sharma bowled a well-disguised wrong'un which not only gripped the surface a bit but also got the drift to bamboozle the opener completely and just got past Ruturaj's defence. Gaikwad got dismissed for a well-made innings of 35 runs which included two fours and three sixes, respectively.
Devon Conway continued his sublime run against KKR as well
Despite Ruturaj Gaikwad's dismissal, the Kiwi batter, Devon Conway continued with his sublime form with the bat as he went on to notch up another fifty in the IPL 2023. He played an entertaining knock of 56 off 40 balls to give a strong platform for the visitors. Post his dismissal, Ajinkya Rahane has taken the charge to keep up the ante of the CSK innings. Currently, Chennai are 139/2 in 13.3 overs.
Now it will be interesting to see if the MS Dhoni-led side goes on to touch the 200-run mark or not with plenty of firepower still to come ahead which should be a worry for the KKR skipper, Nitish Rana.
