Ravindra Jadeja provided some lighthearted humor about his IPL 2023 final heroics with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) when he jokingly said he might be the only guy to be lifted by MS Dhoni after his wife Sakshi Dhoni. The all-rounder reflected on hitting the winning runs against Gujarat Titans and Dhoni's celebratory lift.

The IPL final was a rollercoaster ride with GT posting a formidable total of 214/4, only to be reset to a target of 171 runs in 15 overs due to rain interruptions and the implementation of the DLS method. CSK required 13 runs off the final over bowled by Mohit Sharma. Jadeja smashed a six-over long-on off the fifth ball. When he struck the winning boundary on the final ball, he ran all around the ground, and Dhoni who was at CSK's dugout lifted Jadeja in celebration.

I was quite confident about you know Jaddu has the talent: MS Dhoni

During a recent promotional event for CSK, Jadeja said, "I believe after Sakshi bhabhi, I am the only guy who was lifted by Mahi bhai," drawing laughter from the audience.

Dhoni himself was full of praise for Jadeja's match-winning six-ball 15* in the final, saying, "And this situation also, you know I was quite confident about you know Jaddu has the talent and mindset to achieve the target. But again, it's not definitely that this is what will happen. It was a very memorable innings. You know the few sixes that he hit before the last ball. I think those were very difficult."

The former CSK captain added "Looking at the TV, it looks easy but now that I bat down the order, I know how difficult it is to get that kind of elevation and win it for six. And at the same time, everybody is under pressure. The opposition wants to win, we want to win. It's hard work for everyone. So glad we were on the winning side. And the emotions were very high. So a big round of applause for Jaddu for the way he batted."

Under MS, CSK has lifted the title five times and the 2024 season will potentially be his last time playing in the tournament. Just a day before the start of the 17th edition of the IPL, Dhoni stepped down from captaincy and handed over the duties to young Ruturaj Gaikwad. Under Gaikwad, the defending champions have started their season with a bang as they have already won the first two games and are at the top of the points table.
