Reports: Chennai to host IPL 2024 final as league stays in India amidst General Elections

There were reports that the cash-rich league turning its head towards UAE for the next half of the tournament.

While there were speculations around the second phase of the Indian Premier League 2024 being shifted abroad, recent reports have suggested otherwise. According to Cricbuzz, the league will completely be played in India. The other intriguing aspect of the development could be termed as Chennai hosting the Qualifier 2 and Finals on May 24 and 26, whereas Ahmedabad will host Qualifier 1 and Eliminator on May 21 and 22.  

For the fans who feared an unwanted break before the second leg of the tournament, there comes good news as the second phase will commence on April 8 with a Chennai Super Kings game taking on Kolkata Knight Riders at Chepauk. The first phase of IPL 2024 was slated between March 22 and April 7. The league will commence again without any hiccups and all 74 matches of IPL 2024 will be played in India.

There were reports that the cash-rich league turning its head towards UAE for the next half of the tournament. However, BCCI secretary Jay Shah had denied any transfer and had assured the conduct of the league in India solely. The twists emerged in the wake of upcoming general elections in India and with that came security concerns. However, the richest cricket board in the world seems to have found a way out and give fans wholesome entertainment at home.

BCCI says show must go on amidst scarce security

The Lok Sabha elections begin on April 19 and cede on June 1 with the counting of votes to be held on June 4. BCCI has meticulously crafted the schedule and maintained the home and away format with Dharamsala and Guwahati being the neutral venue. Punjab Kings will play their two matches in Dharamsala against CSK and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, on May 5 and 9 respectively.

The Rajasthan Royals' preferred venue, Guwahati will see their two games against Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders on May 15 and 19 respectively. The RR versus KKR game will see the culmination of the league phase and with a day’s break playoffs will begin on May 21.
