'Should first pay attention to players who are active in first-class cricket’ - Kamran Akmal lambasts PCB over reports of Mohammad Amir's comeback

There have been several reports that 30-year-old pacer Mohammad Amir could be making a comeback to the Pakistan cricket team. His comeback could see some of the younger players getting benched, given that he does make his way into the side.

Following the reports that are speculating Amir’s comeback, former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal recently came forward to talk about how Pakistan cricket should be focusing on the youngsters to be included in the national team instead of opting for veterans who had been missing action. 

"We should definitely consider him (Amir). He plays domestic cricket. Selection shouldn’t be solely based on the PSL. There is T20 cricket and ODI. He has left playing first-class cricket, but there is Test cricket... He can still make a comeback in Test cricket, he can perform well, but you should first pay attention to players who are active in first-class cricket," said Akmal while speaking on the Events & Happenings Sports’ Youtube channel.

"They should first do justice to those players. We are after him who has moved to England, trying to settle there. If he comes back and wants to play…he sure should get a chance, but those who are in Pakistan struggling and working hard to make a comeback should be focused on first," he added.

We should work on our vision: Akmal

Akmal touched upon a variety of topics, as he also reflected on the fact that the PCB needs to work on its vision and make its goals for the future clear as well. He also talked about the current generation of players in Pakistan and how they should aim to play to the standards that their seniors had set.

"It’s not just about Mohammad Amir or Junaid Khan or any other player for that matter, but we should work on our vision and better our policy," Akmal said.

"We have to carry forward the brand of cricket our seniors left us and not downgrade the quality. Today’s era of cricket is very easy; the pitches and the bowling ain’t that tough, the quality of cricket that we played, Inzy bhai (Inzamam ul Haq), Imran Khan or Javed Bhai’s (Javed Miandad) generation did, it’s not there anymore," he added.
