The ongoing Ashes series has been pretty intense and dramatic, proving why England and Australia are called arch-rivals. From on-field battles to off-field altercations, the 2023 edition of the Ashes has seen it all. Even the victories weren’t easy for the two sides. The first Test saw Australia clinching a win in a thrilling manner, and the second game witnessed Ben Stokes’ hard-fought century going in vain.

A handful of changes in the team combination for the third Test saw England finally managing to open their account, and taking the series to 1-2 with their win at Headingley. After two consecutive wins, Australia looked favorites to win the third game, and the bowlers took the game even deeper as both outcomes were possible on the fourth day, but eventually, the hosts emerged victorious.

Looking at the intense fight that the players have been putting up to win the Ashes 2023, former England captain Eoin Morgan lavished praises on both teams, lauding them for the efforts that they have put in to make the battle worth watching. Speaking on Sky Sports, the former England international said:

“It’s unbelievable. The twists and turns we’ve seen throughout every session of every day have been really remarkable. Can’t remember a series like this. But this is different. This is excellence from both teams going toe to toe for as long as they have.”

Morgan cited England's 2-1 victory over Australia in the 2005 Ashes series in an effort to justify his claim. Since England won the prestigious series for the first time since 1987, it was a historic victory for them. Even though England needs a victory in their next game to tie the series, Morgan looked optimistic about England's chances of staging a comeback.

The ongoing series also witnessed fans coming out to support the home side in huge numbers. The recently concluded Headingley Test saw England receiving massive support from the crowd, and similar was the case in the first two Tests at Edgbaston and the Lord’s. Speaking of the England fans, their support, and the drama at Lord’s Long Room, Morgan added:

“The Headingley crowd has been amazing, especially coming from Lord’s and with how the game ended there. This crowd has been just fantastic.”
