Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians are set to clash against each other at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, March 09, in match 16 of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024.

The Giants are having a forgettable campaign so far as they lost the first four matches they played. They registered their first victory of the season by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore Women in their last game. Even after the win they are languishing at the foot of the points table. Beth Mooney and Co have to consider all their upcoming clashes as knockouts to stay alive in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians Women have been in a better position in the WPL 2024, having won four games and suffering two losses out of the six they have played. Harmanpreet Kaur-led side is also coming off a win in their last game against UP Warriorz Women. The defending champions are currently in the second position in the table and will look to go on top of the table.

Gujarat and Mumbai had squared off earlier in the tournament in Bengaluru. The Gujarat-based franchise was restricted to 126/9 in their 20 overs as Amelia Kerr (4/17 from four overs) and Shabnim Ismail (3/18 from four overs) had a great performance with the ball. In reply, Mumbai did find some difficulty chasing the target as they had a shaky start to their innings. But skipper Harmanpreet Kaur made the run chase look easy as she top-scored with a 41-ball 46. Amelia Kerr and Nat Sciver-Brunt also made useful contributions with the bat as the chasing team won by five wickets with 11 balls to spare.

Arun Jaitley Stadium Pitch Report:

This venue is known to be challenging for batters initially, as they often struggle to score freely from the outset. However, once they get their eye in and settle at the crease, they can accelerate and increase the run rate. The powerplay overs are crucial, as batters aim to capitalize on the new ball by scoring quickly while fielding restrictions are in place. As the ball gets older and the field spreads out, batting becomes more difficult. The pitch tends to be on the slower side, which can assist the spinners in extracting extra purchase from the surface. Therefore, the captain winning the toss might consider bowling first to gauge the pitch's behaviour and make an informed decision.

Probable Playing XI:

Gujarat Giants Women:

After Gujarat's first victory in the tournament, they wouldn't want to make changes to their squad and might go with the same squad game against Mumbai Indians. The opening duo of Laura Wolvaardt and skipper Beth Mooney made a brilliant opening partnership in the game against RCB-W with a stand of 140 runs, they will be high on confidence and will look to take the same form in the upcoming clash

Predicted XI: Laura Wolvaardt, Beth Mooney (C/WK), Phoebe Litchfield, Ashleigh Gardner, Veda Krishnamurthy, Dayalan Hemalatha, Kathryn Bryce, Tanuja Kanwar, Shabnam MD, Meghna Singh, Mannat Kashyap

Mumbai Indians Women:

Mumbai are also unlikely to make any changes to their playing XI for the upcoming clash. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side consists of a good mix of Indian and foreign talent and a couple of good games can place them at the top of the table.

Predicted XI: Hayley Matthews, Yastika Bhatia (wk), Nat Sciver-Brunt, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Amelia Kerr, Amanjot Kaur, Pooja Vastrakar, S Sajana, Shabnim Ismail, Humaira Kazi, Saika Ishaque
