IPL 2023: Complete Sold Players List from the IPL Auction

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises finalized their squads as the mini-auction for the sixteenth edition concluded in Kochi on Friday, December 23. Like every season, this auction too was action-packed, right from the word ‘go’, as franchises began to lock horns for certain players that sparked off bidding wars on numerous occasions.

The auction saw INR 167 crore splurged by franchises to fetch 80 players. As many as 405 cricketers went under the hammer out of the 991 that initially registered for the mini-auction. In the list of 405 players- 131 bowlers, 61 batters, 155 all-rounders, and 58 wickets-keepers were up for grabs in the event on Friday.

All franchises have already begun ideating plans ahead of the new season and had noted down specific players to target at the auction in order to bolster their squads. In the auction, arguably the highlight aspect was that of Punjab Kings breaking the bank for English all-rounder Sam Curran, who became the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League during the 2023 mini-auction.

The Englishman was bought for a massive INR 18.5 crore and deservedly so as the star player has proved his worth in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Moments later, Australia’s Cameron Green also crossed the mark with Mumbai Indians agreeing to a INR 17.5 crore deal ahead of the new season. Nicholas Pooran, who was released by SRH in the players retention and released list was the most expensive wicketkeeper ever, going for eight times his base price to Lucknow Super Giants at INR 16 crore.

Needless to mention, fans have been thoroughly entertained with what transpired in the bidding arena on Friday. It will be interesting to see what transpires in the cash-rich T20 league with fresh faces added to the squads. Reigning champions Gujarat Titans will be on the lookout to defend their title and add another one come April 2023.
