MI vs DC: IPL 2024 Stats Review

In match No. 20 of IPL 2024, Mumbai Indians recorded an emphatic win over the Delhi Capitals in Mumbai. Mumbai Indians finally shook off a three-match slump to record their first win of the season while Delhi Capitals have now lost four matches out of five.

Delhi Capitals sent Mumbai Indians to bat first and almost immediately regretted it as Rohit Sharma (49 off 27) and Ishan Kishan (42 off 23) raced to 80 in just seven overs. Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya fared poorly, but Tim David (45* off 21) and Romario Shepherd (39* off 10) made sure that MI went past not just 200, but posted a mammoth 234/5.

Delhi Capitals never looked like they would actually chase this total, but Prithvi Shaw (66 off 40) and Tristan Stubbs (71* off 25) put up a fight that saw Delhi Capitals cross the 200-run mark. Jasprit Bumrah (2 for 22) made his presence felt by going at less than run-a-ball and defending a high total, especially after two wicketless matches in succession.

This result has now sent Mumbai Indians to eighth in the points table while Delhi Capitals now sit last.

Here are all the stats from this game:

234/5 - This is Mumbai Indians' third-highest total in the IPL. Their highest 246, was also posted this season when they were chasing a record 277.

234/5 - This is now the second-highest total in the IPL at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The highest is when RCB racked up 235/1 against MI in 2015.

234/5 - This total is also the highest ever not just in IPL, but in all T20s to not contain an individual fifty.

390 - Romario Shepherd's strike rate of 390, is the highest in an IPL innings of a minimum of ten balls.

24 - MI registered their 24th total of 200 or more in the IPL. MI now have the joint second-most totals of 200 or more in the IPL level with RCB. CSK with 29 still leads the list.

96 - The 96 runs that MI scored in their last five overs, is the joint second most in the last five overs of an IPL innings. PBKS scored the same amount against MI in 2023, while RCB scored 112 against the Gujarat Lions in 2016 is the highest.

32 - The 32 runs that Romario Shepherd hit off Anrich Nortje in the last over of MI's innings are the second highest in the 20th over of an IPL innings. The record belongs to CSK and Ravindra Jadeja, who hit 36 (including one no-ball) off Harshal Patel. These two instances retain their places first and second when all T20 matches are included.

3 - Rohit Sharma became the third player to record 1000 runs against two different teams in the IPL. He completed 1000 runs against DC in this innings to go along with the 1040 he has against KKR. The other two players are, Virat Kohli who has 1000 or more runs against both DC and CSK and David Warner who amassed a four digit total against PBKS and KKR. Shikhar Dhawan with 1057 runs against CSK rounds off the list of players with 1000 or more runs against a particular team in the IPL.

150 - Jasprit Bumrah became just the tenth bowler to register 150 wickets in the IPL. He achieved this feat in 124 matches, making him the third fastest player by matches to do so behind Yuzvendra Chahal who did it in 118 and Lasith Malinga who did it in 105.

150 - Jasprit Bumrah became the third player to take 150 wickets for a single team in the IPL, in his case, Mumbai Indians. Lasith Malinga took 170 wickets for MI while Sunil Narine has taken 166 for KKR so far.

248 - Tristan Stubbs' strike rate of 248 is the third highest in an IPL innings of 25 balls or more. Rishabh Pant with 78 off 27 against MI in 2019 and Suresh Raina with 87 off 25 against PBKS in the second qualifier of the 2014 edition lead the list.

19 - Tristan Stubbs' fifty off 19 balls is the fourth fastest for Delhi Capitals.

4 - Rohit Sharma became the fourth player to register 100 catches as a fielder in the IPL. Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina and Kieron Pollard are the only other ones.

50 - This was Mumbai Indians' 50th win at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai making them the first team to win 50 matches at a particular venue in the IPL.
