Dinesh Karthik and Virat Kohli were the heroes with bat as the Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their first game of IPL 2024 on Monday. The home team beat Punjab Kings by 4 wickets in a pulsating game with four balls to spare.
Batting first, Punjab Kings posted a formidable-looking 176 runs on the board from their 20 overs. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan was the top scorer with 45 runs as the rest of the PBKS batting order, managed to contribute decent runs on the board. Mohammed Siraj and Glenn Maxwell picked 2 wickets apiece as Yash Dayal and Alzarri Joseph picked a wicket each.
Needing 177 to win, Jonny Bairstow dropped Virat Kohli early in the first over of the chase. Despite the early failures of Faf Du Plessis and Cameron Green, the former Indian skipper kept going. Harpreet Brar got the big scalps of Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell as Virat Kohli fell for 77. Dinesh Karthik 28 not out from 10 balls and Mahipal Lomror 17 not out from 8 balls took their team over the line.

With this win Royal Challengers Bengaluru have registered their first win of the season. Bengaluru had begun the campaign with a loss to CSK away from home last Friday. Punjab Kings suffered their first loss of IPL 2024 after starting the tournament with a win against Delhi Capitals.

Thanks to his 77-run knock on Monday, former India and RCB skipper Virat Kohli has taken the lead in the run-scorers tally. PBKS all-rounder Sam Curran yet again delivered with the bat as he has taken the number two spot as Sanju Samson has lost the lead in the table.
