Pakistan cricket legend Waqar Younis feels that South African fast bowler Dale Steyn is currently the best fast bowler in the world. Younis was speaking at the Islamic Relief event organised at Bradford where he was the guest of honour. The event organised at Aagrah Midpoint restaurant aimed to raise money for the people of that war-torn city in Syria.
Waqar also did not forget mention Englishman, James Anderson. Waqar said, “Dale Steyn is currently the best fast bowler in the world. But in English conditions, it’s James Anderson.” Steyn currently looks a bit off colour due to injury issues but Anderson is in a rich vein of form and recently registered a 10 wicket haul against Sri Lanka.
Waqar also revealed who were his prized possessions when it came to grabbing wickets and with no second thoughts he said it was Brian Lara followed by Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly. On the recent match of Pakistan against England, Waqar believes Misbah-ul-Haq, Yasir Shah and Mohammed Aamer can bring in a lot of difference to the side if the team has faith in these experienced players.
Interestingly, Waqar cheekily took a dig on former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram saying, When Wasim Akram was captain he dropped me a few times. But when I was captain I never dropped him.
In the recently concluded GOAT contest, Waqar came in support of Akram and said he was a better bowler than him as they were pitted against each other in this contest and Waqar emerged as the winner. But this comment made in the event seem to say a different story altogether.
