South African speedster Dale Steyn took very little time to take a subtle dig at Australia and ICC on Twitter. Steyn was clearly unhappy with the verdict of the ICC on ball tampering charges against Faf du Plessis. South African skipper Faf du Plessis was found guilty of ball tampering in the second Test against Australia recently. The ICC had decided to review the footage that emerged after the match.

The footage showed du Plessis eating a lolly and then applying his saliva on the ball. Earlier in the day, he was charged with ball tampering. The South African fans were clearly not impressed with the decision. Dale Steyn, the pace spearhead, was no exception either. He was quick to take to social media to show his disagreement with the ICC verdict. He wrote that the Aussies were beaten in all departments.

Be it with the ball or with the bat, the South Africans were clearly stronger among the two units. “Beaten with the bat. Beaten with the ball. Beaten in the field. Mentally stronger. Here’s an idea, Let’s blame it on a lollipop #soft.” The dig at the ICC and the opposition was quite evident.

Earlier in the series, South Africa had convincingly beaten Australia in the first Test. Australia had dominated the first two days of the first Test. Once David Warner was dismissed on 97, the entire team crumbled. The second Test was no different. Vernon Philander and Kyle Abbott wreaked havoc as Australia bundled out for a paltry 85 in the Hobart Test. South Africa ended up winning the match by an innings and took an unassailable lead of 2-0.

It was during the second Test when Faf Du Plessis was found applying his saliva on the ball. Ironically, the match referees did not include the incident in their report nor did the umpires mention them. It were only the footages that surfaced later in the media. Dale Steyn, on the personal front, was ruled out of the series following a shoulder injury.
